Urban ELIKA – Elikagaiak denontzat
EU-Frames members participate in Urban Elika.
Towards healthier, more sustainable and fairer access to food in urban environments.

Mission and approach
Ten years of Urban Elika’s trajectory – Food for All.
Created in 2014, Urban Elika is a multidisciplinary research group of the University of the Basque Country, dedicated to Society and Food Studies. URBAN ELIKA’s activities are oriented towards basic and applied research, teaching and social responsibility.
The project emerged from the concern of researchers and researchers of the UPV/EHU in relation to the responsible use of food from the perspectives of health, sustainability and justice.
Urban Elika was formally constituted through an agreement with SORTARAZI – Claretian Association for Human Development (NGO) and with the desire to contribute to the removal of institutional, legal, socio-economic and technical obstacles that prevent all people from accessing healthy and sufficient food in urban societies.
Working methodology
The multidisciplinary study group on Food and Society Urban Elika arose from the concern of researchers at the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea in relation to the responsible use of food from the perspectives of health, sustainability and justice.
It was formally constituted through an agreement with the NGO Sortarazi (Claretian Association for Human Development) and with the desire to contribute to the removal of institutional, legal, socio-economic and technical obstacles that prevent all people from accessing healthy and sufficient food in urban societies.
The group of studies is organised as a collaborative space, compatible with the dedication of its participants to consolidated groups of the Basque Government and to projects of various competitive calls.
The people who participate in Urban-Elika’s projects and activities come from social entities and from 7 Faculties of the UPV/EHU (Labour Relations and Social Work, Science and Technology, Teaching, Pharmacy, Social and Communication Sciences, Law and Economic and Business Sciences).
